Something for everyone with Pima County Public Library's Fit for Life!

The Pima County Public Library’s Fit for Life program offers teens and their families a community in which to pursue a healthier lifestyle.   The program will feature a nine month series of classes to address topics of nutrition, exercise and overall health, giving teens opportunities to try out different ways to stay fit.

The fitness-rich lineup includes S.W.A.T (Strength Wellness Athletic Training) personal training classes, demonstrating up-to-the-minute physical training techniques with a nutrition component.  Other classes such as yoga, martial arts, and healthy eating seminars will be offered at different library branches, giving young people from all over the community a chance to find out about fitness.   The library has also turned on to healthy habits already popular among teens, offering Dance, Dance, Revolution games and bike safety sessions.

To support teens as they discover new fitness goals, Pima’s Fit for Life program has created a “Library Group” team with the America on the Move National Initiative (AOM). With this online healthy goal-setting website, teens and their families can earn incentives by tracking their exercise.  AOM’s prize for participants from January through March is a free pedometer!  The library has also joined forces with the local YMCA, which has generously donated passes good for 7 visits to local YMCAs so teens and families can get moving and active in a fun and inviting space.

The library will culminate its efforts by participating in the annual Holualoa Tucson ½ Marathon in December 2007.   The Pima County Public Library Running/Walking Club will support teens and their families in training for and participating in the Holualoa Tucson ½ Marathon in December 2007.  Discounted registration fees for Running/Walking Club participants will be available through the library.
