Addressing the problems of obesity and physical inactivity, the Glendale Public Library’s “Be Fit: New Skills for a New Future” project will familiarize teens with a variety of sports, providing them with skills that can be used over a lifetime. Each two-hour clinic will be followed by presentations by experts to address pertinent issues. Topics could include sports psychology, fitness, sports injuries, nutrition, risky behaviors (drugs, smoking, drinking) and similar topics. In addition, each clinic participant will receive a month-long family pass to the local YMCA to encourage ongoing activity, as well as information on where students can continue participating in that particular sport.
