Fit For Life
Get Up & Dance… at the Library?
LFF’s most high-stepping program, Fit for Life, offers teens and their families a fun way to get moving, eat right, and learn about healthier habits across the lifespan. With a special focus on teens in large urban areas, Fit for Life helps libraries fill a gap in access to reliable health information, while promoting community-wide health and wellness.
LFF works with Fit for Life libraries to develop:
• community-wide public awareness campaigns to promote health literacy and health lifestyles
• health and wellness services for individuals of all ages
• partnerships with local organizations, agencies and schools
• libraries as centers for health information.
Fourteen library systems currently operate Fit for Life. Their insights and experiences will help LFF shape similar programming appropriate to the state, regional, and national levels.
Fit for Life was developed in partnership with MetLife Foundation, which awarded LFF a grant in 2004 to pilot Get Real, Get Fit!, a program designed to help combat the growing epidemic of obesity and physical inactivity among young people.
